![]() And then it would be headed for a whole new manner of drama if simply “half” the game launches when it finally does arrive, no matter which half it is. Halo Infinite has already endured all manner of controversy with its poor initial reveal and subsequent delay. This does not sound like a good idea to me. There’s a reason you almost never see games do this unless they’re not heavily multiplayer-focused to begin with (Ghost of Tsushima, future standalone MP modes coming to The Last of Us Part 2, Cyberpunk). But then if you release multiplayer first, that may feel rather lifeless without any story context at all surrounding it with a campaign. If you release a campaign by itself, you are taking away the lifeblood of Halo, multiplayer, for an indefinite period of time which would feel very weird. But it’s a damned if you do, damned if you don’t situation, which is why I think 343 seems like they feel so uncomfortable about a potential split. ![]() You could see single player released in the spring and multiplayer in the fall, or vice versa. The running theory now is that Infinite could end up being delayed a full year to holiday 2021 as Microsoft’s big release of that year instead of this one.Īnd yet maybe that doesn’t happen if the game is split. Halo Infinite still only has a nebulous 2021 release date, but it has made big changes like bringing in Halo OG Joe Staten to help supervise the campaign, which does not seem like a move you’d make if you were ready to release in say, February instead of November.
